Roxy Racing Team Update February 2009 |
|
|
At Wellington the two night Stockcar Teams Champs saw Auckland Alley Cats finish 5th and win the Silver Plate title.
Woodford Glen managed the NZ Superstock Champs well. The weather thought it could defeat us all. It hailed and rained hard near start time. The track was near perfect. We finished 35th over the two night event.
Nelson was another South Island track that I hadn’t raced at. We qualified from the two heats and finished 17th in the final.
We then travelled back across the water to race at Meeane for the North Island Stockcar Champs. We were unlucky in the second heat with a blown diff.
Unfortunately we are unable to attend the NZ Stockcar Champs at Wellington due to the demands of racing on this seasons budget.
We would like to thank all the people that have helped us as we wouldn’t have been racing without them.

Roxy Racing Team Update April 2008 |
|
|
We have had a busy time since the last update. On the 8th March, I didn't have a good night racing, but was the first person to roll someone in the feature race - cool. In the last race for March, King of the Park - a good night and I found the racing different as there was a new track surface.
Auckland Champs were held on the 5th of April - a good result for us. The preliminary race saw me with a 6th, which by the end of the night after, 3 15 lap races had become a 2nd overall. Good racing - hard and fast.
April 12th and another great weekend of racing, this time at Faram Helicopters Speedway in Gisborne. It was a good track, pretty fast and with steep banking. We thoroughly enjoyed the event and look forward to racing there again in the future.

Stratford Speedway
An unforgettable weekend at this year’s New Zealand Stockcar Champs. With 180 cars put into 6 groups we knew it was going to be demanding and challenging to both the car and team. I drew 2nd on the grid which was great as bearing in mind the top 5 from each group qualify. The start was wet and slow but managed to hold out in 3rd or 4th for 4 laps. That was when the red light appeared and the rest of the field was behind me again. On the next corner I was pummeled into the wall but before even thinking about restarting the car I was hit yet again causing the front suspension to collapse. The team worked unhesitatingly and had 5 minutes left before the next race to be buckled in. This time I started in the middle and no matter how hard I pushed the car it was not responding. The front suspension had broken at the beginning of the race. A few laps later, I was on top of a bonnet then tipped over, once again short lived on the track. The team got straight to work and I was out in my final race for the night. I had fun for the time it lasted and thank all the people behind the scenes who lent us their time and equipment to get me racing.

Huntly Speedway
We had a reasonably good night bearing in mind the circumstances. The car was handling ideal for the track. We damaged some rims and tyres, broke the panhard rod, but managed to qualify for the Waikato Champs. There were just fewer than 50 cars present which were split into two groups. Each group had 2 qualifying races with the qualifiers doing another 2 races. While unsure of the results, we had fun and the team did a superb job. They made sure I was back on the track to cause some more turmoil.

Roxy Racing Team Update October 2007 |
|

With a busy schedule before the season even commences, we've had an engine swap due to the 1st practise at Waikaraka Park. With less than 8 laps completed the oil pressure dropped and smoke appeared. The following weekend at Waikaraka Park was the 2nd and last practise where I had my first ever drive in a Superstock. The engine was to be run in, which was fine by me as I was just getting used to all that power. The second time out I got a few more laps under my belt and got the hang of it.
This October has been full of activity with realistically good results considering the circumstances.
We are really happy with how the stockcar is handling and look forward to more good results. My first appearance in the Superstock was short lived. I hit a car that spun in front of me and did damage to the steering and chassis. This weekend we will be at Waikaraka in the Superstock and possibly the following day at Kihikihi.

Roxy Racing Team Update March 2007 |

With practice at Stratford rained out it left us with no set-up on a track I’ve not driven in a stockcar, a push on the car and a slowing engine meant we were always going to struggle in a strong field of cars. With only 3 Auckland cars present, the chances of any help were slim.
We canned the second night in favour of more laps at the newly surfaced Waikaraka park, this seemed to work as the car was perfect and we just waited the arrival of the new engine for the NZ’s. After the biggest organised rush of the season and many hours work from all the team, the new engine was finally in and I was as eager as ever to try it….but with no practice for the Auckland cars for the NZ title this left us up in the air once again and questioning why do we bother! With 150 cars we needed to finish in the top 6 of our group, this went out the window after more handling problems and being taken out by another Auckland car in the final heat when we only needed to finish to qualify. So this left us racing in the consolation races on the second night, after winning the first race it was smiles all round but I couldn’t hide the fact that battling for minor positions doesn’t mean much when racing.
Another weekend at Huntly, more tough racing and some fast times on a track I like more each time I race on left us with a positive feeling for the Auckland champs. A top position of 4th after some clean battles and some proper stockcar tactic racing leaves me thinking I should race at Huntly on a more regular basis.
All set for the Auckland champs now, with everything on the car how I like it I drove to a top 5 place in each heat only to be spun around every time, winning can come down to how many friends you have on the track, or just being male. With this being the only class of racing our budget lets us race in it can be hard to get any recognition or results and wondering how you progress in the world of speedway racing. So after taking its toll on my normal calm personality I decided to not be on the receiving end and decided to be the cause of some stockcar incidents and not focus on my finishing position.
Climbing out of my car after the third heat well down in the positions I wondered why I had the biggest grin on my face of the year, I may just enjoy the rest of the season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those people behind the scenes that help get the car back on track during a meeting, without all the welding and help from other crews we would have many short nights of racing. Thanks guys!
With a few things to do on the car this week we will be busy but all should be good for the Waikato champs at Huntly this weekend. See you all there.

Wow, what a weekend at Palmerston North. A huge thanks to all the people down there for your support and for putting on a great weekend. I've come away a bit sore from the odd crash, but had a fantastic time and I look forward to coming back again in the future. Stay tuned for more details on the weekend.
With the season in full flow I nearly forgot to wish you all a happy new year, with meetings planned up and down the country over the next month this was no time for the gremlins to come but they did.
Flying into Palmerston from Christchurch after a South Island tour, I waited for my car and crew to arrive at the huge Palmerston track, after always wanting to race here I was gutted when the steering box went heavy and sloppy, not the most ideal thing in a stockcar being vulnerable to some hits…up the wall, backwards, on the side… I was just along for the ride! Note: must write to Panadol for sponsorship!
Determined not to get down after the first night at palmy we were fortunate enough to still be running and were now part of the GT Radials Classic. More hits and a broken fan ended my first race as we cant risk the engine. All fixed again and back in the action saw us drawn up the wall and tipped onto its side not even finishing the first lap. With no damage we lined up for the final race determined to finish on a high, claiming an 8th from 19 cars.
With the car back to the Shardlow workshops it was steering boxes on the agenda, a new lightweight unit working perfect after a quick drive round the block left me itching for some more track time. No meets at Waikaraka so we put Bay Park on the schedule only to be called off on race day.
A quick call to Huntly saw us lining up with 38 stockcars on another good track and a well-organised night, just no grid positions or prize money being my only disappointment. Being able to turn left at the right time made it a joy to be driving again giving us a 6th in race 1. Time for some testing we thought, so with stagger and pressures changed we were even faster in race 2, climbing up to 3rd till we got taken out on the last bend…that’s racing tho! Even more changes for the feature saw us fly from the start only to have fuel starvation problems and limping home for a 12th.
So we're all set for more racing now and hoping to head down to Rotorua to back the world 240’s. With the GP at Stratford on the list as well all we need now is a diesel card!

Roxy Racing Team Update December2006 |

After a quick beauty pageant to China and Singapore I returned to NZ eager to carry on the season where we left off. My first race back being a teams event at Waikaraka Park got me straight in the hot seat as we took out the win and some big hits. Some minor repairs for the heats left us with a 3rd, 4th and 5th place.
With a new sponsor on board in the form of Mangawhai Drainage & Stormwater Systems Ltd space is rapidly disappearing on the 117a car as the team goes from strength to strength.
A rainout at Waikaraka forced us down to kihikihi on the Sunday. An interesting track testing me and the mechanics after a broken axle gave us our first DNF of the season, a hasty change of axle and the car still going good, we finished the day with some hard racing and came home with a 4th and 6th.
Another free weekend at Waikaraka took us to Huntly, no problems once again on a slick surface saw us quick in a strong field of 26 cars, coming away with a 4th, 9th and 2nd place.
With interest in the team high, this week has been heavily promotional with TV3 going behind the scenes to give all of NZ an insight on how things work in racing and modelling for me.
With all our efforts now focused on the NI Champs at Palmerston and the NZ Title at Waikaraka we eagerly await another engine so we can have a serious shot at some silverware. A new Holden V6 being tuned by DNC automotive then race prepped by Hyde automotive has spirits high in Team Roxy as the start of the season has seen us using a $250 salvage engine…. even with standard stocks coming down to trackcraft, driver skill and luck, a few extra horses sure will help!

Roxy Racing Team Update November2006 |
|
|
With the season underway, we got off to a great start in front of a bumper crowd. It was a good track and the car was handling positive which saw me stay away from trouble in the first two heats, rewarding me with a second and a win. A finish in the last race would have ensured us a podium finish, starting from ninth we climbed to second within two laps but a power steering failure led to my first taste of 'the wall' and dropped us back to third, but this was good enough for first overall and making a great start to the season.

The season is getting closer and our preparations are well underway with major work being undertaken this year. We have stripped the car down, and are now in the reassembly phase. Some photos are available in the Gallery, with more to follow as work progresses.
Along with the new look for the car, we also have a new look for the team with new crew shirts and caps. If you are interested in purchasing them, see the Merchandise page.
